Today we mark International Workers’ Day, an occasion for us to celebrate the contributions workers make to our country.

From construction, to harnessing our natural resources, to providing the public services Canadians rely on – for everything from health care to food safety – workers are the backbone of our economy.

Unfortunately, the Conservative government has attacked collective bargaining rights, rejected pension protection, mismanaged EI services and rolled back the clock on pay equity for women.

We will not let that happen without a fight.

I am proud of our party’s history of standing up for working people – but there is still more to be done. Working together, we can respect the rights of working people and build a more prosperous Canada for all.
